Main material: Banana Fibre

Our wall baskets are made from plant fibres. They therefore wonderfully smell and feel like nature.

Banana fibre is the fibre from the layered stems of agricultural banana plants. The intense brown colouring occurs naturally when the fibres are dried under the sun for about a week. Afterwards, the individual strips are rolled into the characteristic, approximately 6 mm thick strands. Only old, dying banana plants are used for this material. This gives these useful plants a second life as a dimensionally stable and robust raw material for many handmade baskets here at Soeji.

This wall decor was handmade in Java, Indonesia.
When selecting our local producers, we value fair pay and good working conditions. Only adult and experienced artisans work in the companies from which we purchase our goods. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Since all work steps are done by hand, the production process hardly generates any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.
