The Batik storage basket is characterised by its unique weaving, in which seagrass is not simply woven in strands next to each other, but rather in a striking and large chequered pattern. This creative weaving technique not only gives the basket a special stability, but also a sculptural and interesting appearance.

Material: Seagrass

Our baskets are made from plant fibres. They therefore wonderfully smell and feel like nature.

What is usually referred to as “seagrass” by basket makers is actually not an (under) water plant, but a small, palm-like plant that is widespread on sandy beaches in the tropics of Asia. The leaves of the plants, which are often cultivated by humans, are separated, cut into strips, dried and then processed by hand.

This basket is handmade in Java, Indonesia.
When selecting our local producers, we value fair pay and good working conditions. In the factories from which we purchase our goods, we only work with adult and experienced artisans. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Since all work steps are done by hand, the production process hardly generates any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.
