Kawah is a longer version of our Kalima lampshade. This makes it particularly well suited for places with high ceilings or for filling the space above tables. For Kawah, raffia is carefully woven into rattan fibres by hand. The fringes, in particular, are a striking detail that spread a warm, tropical atmosphere in your home.

The light shines through this lampshade in a slightly subdued way, letting it create a particularly cosy, comfortable atmosphere when used as the sole light source.

The lampshade has a ring for attaching the bulb holder. Kawah ships without any additional accessories, but you can find suitable light bulbs and cables in any hardware store.

Main material: Raffia

Our lampshades are made from plant fibers. They therefore wonderfully smell and feel like nature.

Raffia (Corypha utan) occurs naturally in the steppe and forest areas of Southeast Asia. About every two years, the plant renews its leaves and sheds the old ones, which are then collected by humans, dried in the sun for a few days to weeks and processed into wickerwork, depending on the desired degree of browning. The relative rarity and the higher processing effort make this material somewhat more expensive compared to other plant fibers. While it is hardly known in Europe, the material has proven itself with the local population in Southeast Asia in the form of all kinds of everyday objects and is very popular due to its pleasantly soft, but robust nature.

When selecting our local producers, we value fair pay and good working conditions. Only adult and experienced artisans work in the companies from which we purchase our goods. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Since all work steps are done by hand, the production process hardly generates any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.
